To the editor:

I hope the P&Z will reject the Downtown Plan Implementation Committee proposal. A much better solution would be a parking structure on the Baldwin lot and rearrangement of the parking adjacent to Jesup Green to increase green space.

But apart from that, would it not be a mistake to add parking to the green before we know what is to become of the police station (just as it was a mistake to replace the Baldwin lot before approval of a downtown parking plan)?

And, finally, how did it happen that the 2015 RBA plan, which included a vision for Jesup Green, which was prepared at a cost of $250,000, which was approved by the P&Z, and which was to have been implemented by the DPIC, has been completely ignored in the current proposal?

Rejecting this proposal, answering these questions and reconsidering the better options would go a long way toward avoiding what may well be an irreversible mistake.
