Following is an opinion submitted by Westporter Elaine Whitney, a member of the Board of Finance and Former Chair, Westport Board of Education.

I enthusiastically endorse Lee Goldstein as Westport’s next District 136 State Representative. 

Lee is the right person for Westport.

Lee has a demonstrated track record of leadership. She is deeply dedicated to our community and to always delivering the best possible outcomes for the people she represents. She is thoughtful, smart, highly professional, nuanced in her approach, and focused on making the right decisions to benefit our community as a whole. She is also willing to make tough calls when needed.

Very importantly, Lee knows how to work constructively with other people, even those with different priorities or points of view, reaches across the aisle, finds common ground, and embraces collaborative problem-solving. To inform her work, she proactively seeks input from her constituents and from town and state officials across Connecticut and beyond.

As a long-serving Westport leader who has worked closely with Lee for many years, including as a colleague on the Board of Education and more recently in my role as a member of the Board of Finance, I have seen her in action, both in and out of public.  Lee understands the state’s role and the impact of state actions on local communities, both when they are positive and when they present challenges for towns and their residents. She is extremely well prepared to navigate the challenging times we are facing.

Lee is the leader – and listener – Westport needs in Hartford!
