Robert E. McGrath

Following is the obituary for ROBERT E. McGRATH, submitted for his family by the Harding Funeral Home.

_______________________________

Robert E. McGrath, 93, of Westport, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born and grew up in Fitchburg, Mass. He attended Fitchburg State College, where he met his wife of 68 years, Betty.

After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he began his career as a teacher. While going to school at night for his graduate degree at UConn, he then switched to sales. He established his own executive search firm, Robert E. McGrath and Associates, which he ran for more than 20 years.

Betty and Bob moved to Westport in 1966 and greatly enjoyed Compo Beach and all that Westport offers.  Bob served on the board of the Stamford YMCA and several Westport town committees. He was an active member of the Westport YMCA and the Y’s Men, where he was president. He also had two great loves (other than his family) — the Boston Red Sox and the stock market.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty, and three daughters, Maura McGrath, Kerry McGrath (Michael Cox) and Sheila Wulf (Brad).

There will be a funeral Mass on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 10:30 a.m., meeting directly at Church of the Assumption, 98 Riverside Ave. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, 73 Greens Farms Road.

The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, on Wednesday Feb. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m.
