
Following is the obituary for RICHARD M. HARDING, submitted by the Faries Funeral Home in Smyrna, Del.

Richard M. Harding of Smyrna, Del., beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024, at age 83 in the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1940, in Norwalk, the son of the late Evan and Rachael Harding. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Lee Harding, of 47 wonderful years.
He was a longtime resident of Westport and graduated from Staples High School in 1959, and then went to the University of Connecticut. He worked at Daybreak Nurseries, a family-owned business, until moving to Delaware in 1997.
Dick was property manager of a beautiful estate and retired at the age of 70 when he started showing signs of Dementia. The illness didn’t stop him as he continued to enjoy life. He enjoyed traveling, cruising, and loved trips in his motor home.
Growing up, Dick enjoyed working and riding horses, spending time with his aunt and uncle on their boat, and working alongside his father. Dick was a volunteer firefighter and Kiwanis member for years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Butters.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, Vicki, he is survived by his children and grandchildren, Melissa Harding Skidmore (with husband Peter) and their children Aurielle and Morgan Skidmore; David Harding and his three sons, and Richard Harding, Jr. (with wife Kelly) and their children JJ and Tripp. Dick is also survived by his sisters, Marilyn Harding and Anne Harding.
Dick was a great friend and he was always willing to give a helping hand. He never said no when asked to help. He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.
The family suggests making a contribution in Dick’s memory to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19977.
