
Matthew R. Mott, a loving brother and uncle, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 16, 2025, at his home in Tucson, Arizona.
Born the first day of February 1939 in Atlanta, Georgia, his father and family moved north during WWII to help with the war effort by working at Remington Arms in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Matt grew up in Bridgeport and during the early fifties, his father, Matthew Mott Sr. and mother Eleanor A. (Angie) Mott, decided to open a public accounting practice together – eventually moving their successful business to Westport Connecticut, where they worked until their passing.
Matt graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in the late fifties earning a degree in Business Administration. He graduated from the University of Miami, achieving a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1965. He was commissioned an officer in the Army and began a military career lasting 32 years. After serving in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967, and in many command positions, he retired with the rank of full Colonel.
He returned from Vietnam and earned a high honors master’s degree in finance from the University of Bridgeport, in Connecticut. His civilian career was in the field of finance, and he was employed for many years as an executive of Wall Street investment firms in New York City, holding many positions of authority, culminating as a Senior Vice President and Director of Operations.
In later years of retirement, he relocated to Tucson, Arizona and attended Pima College, obtaining an additional high honors degree in computer science, while working for the tax firm of H&R Block. During these final 25 years he rejoined his college-days sweetheart, Joan Krueger, and lived out his life in Tucson.
He is survived by his brother, Leonard P. Mott of Palo Alto, California and his two nieces, Jennifer Buenrostro of Palo Alto and Andrea Burgan of San Diego, California
Matthew will be interred at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM (PDT).
