Following is the obituary for JAMES HINCHMAN GOODENOUGH, submitted for the family by the Harding Funeral Home.

James Hinchman Goodenough passed away peacefully at his home in Westport on Sept. 29, 2021, surrounded by Gloria, his loving wife of 73 years, and his four children. He was 95 years old.
Jim was born on June 24, 1926, in New Haven, the third of four children of the late Dr. Erwin Ramsdell Goodenough, a professor at Yale University, and Helen Miriam Lewis.
Jim grew up in Woodbridge and attended Westminster School, then Yale University.
Jim married Gloria Elizabeth Cleworth of New Canaan, on April 17, 1948. They had four children, Sandra, Janice, Andrew and Elizabeth.
In 1954, they moved to Westport. Jim took a job at his father-in-law’s specialized business magazine company, Cleworth Publishing, in Cos Cob, rising to publisher of several magazines, and then vice president and treasurer.
Jim was a man of consummate integrity, wisdom and humbleness.
Jim is survived by his wife Gloria, his four children, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his brother, John B. Goodenough, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry last year for his work on the lithium-ion battery.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m., at Saugatuck Congregational Church in Westport.
Memorial donations are suggested to Saugatuck Church or to Westminster School, Simsbury.
