Elizabeth “Betty” Auber, retired nurse and devoted mother, passed away on May 24th in her Westport home with her family by her side.

Betty was born and raised in Queens, New York, the child of immigrant Irish/German parents.   Their motivation to be the best you can be was passed on to her.

After graduation from The Dominican Commercial High School, she married her sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Auber, and raised 5 children.   She went back to school and obtained a degree in nursing from Norwalk Community College (1981), then later graduated from Fairfield University in 1987 with a degree in psychology.   Betty was a dedicated nurse who was highly respected for her expertise and compassion.  She ended her career as a psychiatric nurse providing compassionate care to those most vulnerable.

Betty retired when she was 76 years old, but continued to be a medical consultant to family and friends – always willing to listen and offer sage advice.  Betty and Dick loved traveling with their many friends and enjoyed hosting numerous social activities at their Westport home.  Later, she actively participated in events at the Westport Center for Senior Activities and at The Westport YMCA.   Until very recently, she hosted weekly bridge and canasta games in her home.

Betty is survived by her five children:  Patricia (Tom), Richard (Tatyana), Ron (Cheryl), Judy (Ferdinand), Christine (Michael), 7 grandchildren:  Abby, Steven, Jordan, Anastacia, Matthew, Kevin, Mary and four great grandchildren:  Colden, Keegan, Beckham and Eleanor.  She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Casey and brother, Joseph Schick.   She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Richard Auber.

She was an active member and volunteer of St. Luke Parish since 1976.   She leaves a legacy of goodness and generosity to all of those who were fortunate to know her.    A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road, Westport, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Parkinson’s Voice Project or The Westport Center for Senior Activities.
