Angelo Rotella Sr. passed away on Oct. 7, 2023, with his family by his side.

Angelo was born on Aug. 6, 1950, in Sersale, Italy, to Nicola and Caterina Rotella. At age nine, Angelo moved to Norwalk and earned his high school diploma from J.M. Wright Technical School.

Shortly after, he met the love of his life, Marylee Denke. In Angelo and Marylee’s 53 years of marriage, they had three children. Throughout their years together, Angelo and Mary Lee’s homes were filled with love and life (and tons of wallpaper). Despite taking care of family, friends and a variety of pets, there was always room in their home for everyone.

Angelo is survived by his wife, Marylee; his children, Dawn, Angelo Jr. and Lisa; his five grandchildren, Brianna, Paddy, Darragh, Isabelle and Angelo III, and his sister, Josephine Mercurio.

Angelo’s spirit will be lived on through many extended family members and close friends as well. He will be greatly missed.

Angelo’s favorite pastimes included spending time with his family, gardening and fishing. He also dabbled in Wii games and quickly became the Wii bowling champion amongst his family.

Angelo was a kind and loving man, who was always there when anyone needed him. He had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community. Angelo was a great listener, and when he spoke, he offered sound advice coupled with wisdom and compassion.

In his years of work, Angelo wasn’t afraid to try new things, get dirty or work hard. He started his career as a mason and eventually began working for the Town of Westport at the waste-water treatment plant.

For years, he was able to celebrate his love for the water by working the night shift at Longshore’s marina. Angelo retired from the Town of Westport in 2017 after 27 years of dedication.

You left us peaceful memories. Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, You are always at our side.
