WESTPORT — “Lobsterfest,” a summertime food-and-fun ritual returns to the town’s waterfront Sept. 18, sponsored by the Westport Rotary Club.
The 10th annual event, from 3 to 7 p.m., will be back at Compo Beach this year, with the addition of a new drive-through dining option. Last year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fundraiser was online only.
About 1,200 tickets are expected to be sold for beach dining, while others can arrange for scheduled pickups of lobsters and/or steak to enjoy elsewhere. In past years, LobsterFest volunteers served approximately 2,400 lobsters, 300 steaks and 1,600 ears of corn, as well as raw oysters, according to the club.
The Lobsterfest is the Westport Rotary’s major fundraiser, and helps support the club’s annual charitable giving, including 36 grants to local nonprofits and support for humanitarian projects around the world.
Tickets for this year’s Lobsterfest cost $70 per person for two 1.25-pound lobsters or a 14-ounce New York strip steak, plus corn, coleslaw, bread and butter, potato salad, Peppermint Patties, and beer or wine.
Tickets can be purchased only in advance — online at www.westportrotary.org and directly from Westport Rotary Club members.
In case COVID-19 guidance from public officials on the day of Lobsterfest requires the number of people dining at the beach be limited, ticketholders will be contacted by email to arrange for a scheduled drive-through option, the club indicated.
