WESTPORT — Residents are invited to help chart a course for preserving Westport’s history for future generations.

To guide the preparation of a “Historic Preservation Plan” for the town residents are invited to participate in a survey being conducted by the Historic District Commission.

The survey gives people a chance to provide input regarding “what is important to them in regard to local history, culture and the built environment,” according to an announcement from the HDC.

Participants are questioned about issues such as how relevant preserving Westport’s historic character and resources is to them and whether local historical-preservation efforts have been effective.

The online survey can be accessed by clicking here.

A consultant, PaleoWest, has been hired to prepare the Historic Preservation Plan.

The project will provide “a long-term vision for historic preservation in the community, and to create a set of achievable goals and strategies for strengthening the town’s historic preservation program,” Donna Douglass, the HDC’s coordinator, said in the statement.
