Highlighted area shows Wheels2U Westport expanded routes in the Saugatuck area.

WESTPORT — Rides on the Wheels2U Westport shuttle service to and from the town’s railroad stations will be available in two more sections of town starting July 5.

The on-demand transit program on that date will begin serving:

  • Saugatuck Avenue, Hiawatha and Eno lanes, Belaire, Minard, Covelee and Norport drives, Harbor and Bermuda roads and all of Saugatuck Shores.
The highlighted Westway Road section of town, abutting Fairfield, is another addition to the Wheels2U Westport service area.
  • On the other side of town, service will be available for residents of Westway Road and Parsell Lane.

The expanded service area now includes “virtually all of Westport,” according the announcement from the Westport Transit District.

“With this latest service expansion, which builds on last August’s expansion to the Arlen Road area, virtually all Westport residents will be able to take advantage of Wheels2U’s quick, convenient and cost-effective service between the Westport and Greens Farms stations and their homes and offices,” Peter Gold, the transit district director, said in the announcement.

“Reverse commuters to Westport can also use the service to go between the train stations and their place of employment in Westport,” he added.

Residents living in the Wheels2U Westport service area can use its ride-sharing app to book a ride between 5:45 and 9:45 a.m. from their homes to either the Saugatuck or Greens Farms railroad stations and from 4 and 9:30 p.m. to schedule rides from either station back home.

Rides should be requested about 20 minutes before the desired pickup time. The fare is $2 when paid with the Wheels2U app, and a Metro-North Uniticket rail/bus pass also can be used.
