WESTPORT — An online hearing to detail plans for rehabilitating the railroad bridge spanning the Saugatuck River will be hosted April 16 by the state Department of Transportation.
The hearing will take place, virtually only, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16. Click here to register, which is required to participate via DOT’s live-stream, or watch the proceedings on the agency’s YouTube channel.
The project, according to the DOT, will replace and repair electrical and mechanical systems that lift and lower the span.
The work, expected to begin in the fall of 2025, is not expected to have an impact on the rights-of-way on either side of bridge.
The bridge — built in 1904 and last rehabilitated in 1985 — carries four railroad tracks over the Saugatuck River, just east of the Saugatuck Railroad Station.
Comments on the project also can be submitted during the two weeks after the April 16 hearing, ending April 30.
Those comments and questions should be emailed to DOTProject0301-0177@ct.gov or to Hareshkumar Dholakia at Hareshkumar.Dholakia@ct.gov, and by phone at 860-594-3173.
