WESTPORT — As details of the Longshore Capital Improvement Plan emerge, town officials are inviting public scrutiny of the proposals over the next several weeks.
The wide-ranging suggestions on upgrading the 168-acre park, culled from a survey earlier this year, include adding pickleball courts and improvements to swimming pool facilities to providing broader access to the waterfront and a network of pedestrian and bike paths.
The first of the sessions will be the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 (the meeting will take place online via Zoom, with the link yet to be posted).
At that meeting, Stantec, the consulting firm hired to manage the improvement plan, will unveil preliminary concept diagrams for the project, officials said.
The presentation also will be posted on the project website, Stantec Longshore Club Park, as of Oct. 20, officials said. An accompanying survey will be available on the project website by Oct. 31.
In addition, two “open house” gatherings, where the public can meet with the Longshore consultants, are planned later in the month at the Westport Library:
- Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 10-11:30 a.m., 3-4:30 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9:30-11 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m.
“The open houses are a great opportunity for residents to receive an overview of the materials and see the diagrams up close,” Jennifer Fava, the parks and recreation director, said in a press statement.
“Each open house session allows for people to come and go freely, as each will include multiple brief overviews and an opportunity to ask questions, make comments and provide feedback to the consultants,” she added.
