WESTPORT — While reports of local power outages bounced up and down throughout Monday morning, the rain-and-wind storm dumped more than 2 inches of precipitation here — and twice as much elsewhere in the state — triggering the threat of flooding through early evening.
The storm, part of a massive onslaught that roared up the East Coast starting Saturday, began sweeping across the region Sunday evening and is not expected to fully clear from southwestern Connecticut until Monday afternoon.
As of 10 a.m. Monday, there were 56 power outages reported in Westport, down from 239 about two hours earlier, according to Eversource data.

And nearly 83,000 were without power across Eversource’s statewide customer base, including 520 in Wilton, 79 in Norwalk (where more than 1,500 were reported earlier), 195 in Weston and 42 in Fairfield, which is served primarily by the United Illuminating Co.
Although the full force of the storm has begun to taper off, rain and strong wind gusts are expected to be felt across the region until midday, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain, wind data so far …
Preliminary rainfall data in Westport, reported as of 10 a.m. Monday by a National Weather Service spotter, was 2.08 inches, with a top wind speed clocked at 60 mph in Fairfield just before 5 a.m. Monday.
To the north and west of Westport, higher rainfall totals are being reported: 4.43 inches in Danbury, 3.51 inches in Bethel, 3.46 inches in Greenwich and 3.35 inches in Ridgefield.
The Westport area remains under a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” through Monday evening, according to the weather service.
The Monday forecast warns of high winds likely through noon as well as the potential for coastal and inland flooding through early evening.
Monday’s temperatures, however, may reach an un-December-like high in the mid-50s, according to the NWS, before falling to more seasonal levels in the mid-30s overnight.
The outlook for Tuesday through Friday is for mostly sunny skies, with daytime high temperature readings in the mid-40s, the weather service says.
Power disruptions can be reported online at Eversource.com or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who signed up for the power company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
