WESTPORT — As frigid weather tightens its grip on the region over the next several days, scattered power outages persist Tuesday in Westport following a high-wind onslaught.

Power Outages

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, 36 Westport customers had no power, Eversource reported. That’s little changed from a day earlier when 46 local outages were reported early Monday.

Widespread power disruptions were left in the wake of strong winds that raked the state Sunday, when gusts were clocked at between 50 and 60 mph. By early Tuesday, most Eversource customers had their service restored, but 1,235 were still in the dark across the power company’s state base.

Meanwhile, the demand for power is certain to remain high Tuesday and the next few days as high temperatures are expected to rise only to the mid-20s and wind-chill values register from zero to 10 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight temperatures will drop into the mid-teens, with a chance of snow Thursday night.

By Friday, things will turn slightly warmer as daytime highs rise to the mid-30s, the NWS says.

The stretch of cold weather prompted Gov. Ned Lamont to activate the state’s severe cold weather protocol through noontime Saturday.

People who need assistance or emergency accommodations should call “2-1-1” or check Connecticut’s 211 website that provides a list of resources, such as transportation to a shelter or warming center.
