WESTPORT — As part of the annual “Invest in Yourself Day” at Staples High School, seniors were offered an opportunity to register a claim on their futures.

Voting.

The League of Women Voters of Westport provided information to eligible students about voter registration during the Wednesday program, and 53 were enrolled as voters.

The event marked a return for the LWV’s voter-registration initiative at Staples after a several-year hiatus because of pandemic restrictions.

Under state law, 17-year-olds who will turn 18 before the next scheduled elections are eligible to register to vote.
