WESTPORT — Just three days into the new school year, the district reported Friday afternoon that there are three newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the schools.
According to Supt. of Schools Thomas Scarice, Coleytown Middle School, Greens Farms Elementary School, and Saugatuck Elementary School each have one confirmed case, though he did not say whether these cases are among students or staff members.
“We want to remind families that students with pending COVID-19 tests should not return to school until receiving negative results,” he wrote to parents. “This approach is critical in helping us minimize the potential for transmission in our schools.”
This year quarantine periods for students has been shortened from 14 to seven days, per state orders.
The state has also required that all staff members working in the public schools be vaccinated.
Those who have not been vaccinated for whatever reason are supposed to be tested on a weekly basis.
