WESTPORT — The weather outside has not been been frightful, so there will be no skating at Saturday’s “Winter Wonderland 2021” as planned — but festive fun still is promised at the Westport Police Athletic League event.

Supporting PAL’s efforts to make the holidays bright for charitable causes, the event will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Westport PAL ice rink in Longshore Park, 260 Compo Road South.

Tickets cost $20 for adults, $10 for children.

Although the recent relatively warm weather has delayed opening the ice rink, activities will include holiday caroling, hot chocolate and coffee, a campfire maintained by Westport firefighters, a visit from Santa Claus and other activities.

Attendees also will be given a voucher to skate when the ice rink is ready for skating.

Proceeds from the event will benefit three charities, according to organizers:

  • Al’s Angels, a Westport-based nonprofit that provides support to children with cancer and their families, as well as those in need of assistance caused by natural disasters and financial hardship.
  • LivFree, a Fairfield County nonprofit that supports pediatric cancer patients and their families by offering them “unforgettable experiences.”
  • Westport Police Athletic League, run by active and retired police officers and community volunteers, provides athletic programs for more than 2,000 local youngsters, and also awards more than 25 undergraduate scholarships annually. The nonprofit traditionally organizes Westport’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show, in addition to managing the ice rink at Longshore Park.
