WESTPORT — The season’s first significant snowfall continues to accumulate early this morning, with forecasters expecting at least four inches total before the storm eases by midday.

For now, the latest National Weather Service forecast for southwestern Connecticut indicates light snow may keep falling for the remainder of the morning.

The region remains under a “Winter Weather Advisory” from the NWS, with a warning that hazardous driving conditions should be expected.

In Westport, school officials yesterday canceled all classes and closed offices in anticipation of today’s storm.

The Westport Library announced this morning it plans a delayed opening today at 1 p.m.

After the snow ends, the weather service expects the rest of the day to remain cloudy with temperatures reaching a high in the mid-30s.

The Saturday forecast is for sunny skies, with temperatures in the 30s.

On Sunday, however, the NWS says there is a slight chance of snow showers in the morning, likely changing to rain later in the day.
