WESTPORT–With more frigid days ahead and a major winter storm expected to strike Westport Sunday morning into Monday, the Town of Westport has announced several warming centers and advised residents to avoid travel during the harsh weather.
“This storm has the potential to significantly impact travel and daily activities,” said town Fire Chief Nicholas L. Marsan. “Now is the time for residents to prepare, complete errands early, and plan to stay off the roads once snowfall begins so emergency and public works crews can operate safely.”
The town, in coordination with the Westport Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management, is closely monitoring the storm following Gov. Ned Lamont’s activation of Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol.
Forecast and Safety Reminder
Forecast models currently project 12 to 18 inches of snowfall across Southern New England, the town said in an announcement. Snow is expected to begin Sunday morning, become heavy during the day, and taper off Monday morning, the announcement said. The light, powdery snow is not expected to cause power outages, but wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph may cause blowing snow and periods of near-zero visibility, disrupting road and air travel.
