WESTPORT — On “International Women’s Day,” women made sure their voices were heard Saturday in Westport.
With a “Unite and Resist” rally slated to begin at 11 a.m., protestors and supporters had been clapping and waving signs on sidewalks along the Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Bridge at least 20 minutes earlier.
An estimated 170 signed up to participate, but the determined crowd looked larger, many holding signs demanding women’s equality and anti-Trump/Musk messages.

“I’m here because I want women to have equal rights,” said Bean Corcoran, rally organizer of ReSisters.
She stopped herself, then continued, “It’s impossible to say what bothers me most, because I feel terrible for the federal workers who are being fired … we’re on a nasty loop where women are considered less than men.”
Sari Bode echoed Bean’s sentiments, asserting, “Reproductive justice has gone by the wayside because all of the craziness and chaos in Washington right now.”
Her friend, Victoria Sybelnik, pointed to a pin on her pink cowboy hat, “You see one of these buttons on my head? It’s from 1989. I was protesting for women’s rights then and here we are today in 2025 and we still don’t have them.
“It’s disgusting,” she added.
Parents brought their children, eager for them to learn to stand up for themselves.
Christina Torres and daughter Kilee held complementary signs. “I want to show my daughter that making a stand and having a voice and using it is important,” she said, while Kilee nodded beside her.
Natalie Myers, who attended with her grandsons, said, “They have to learn how to stand up for the rights, for the rights of everyone. What’s Donald doing? Taking away all those rights.”

I”m so glad everybody has a voice in America. Sometimes it feels good to go out in public and just shout, like the song from KISS. One time I was crossing the bridge on my motorcycle and was taken by surprise when a hundred people started cheering me on as I rolled by. It caught me off guard and I almost wiped out. But hey I love an organic protest, as long as the protesters are not being paid by foreign entities or marxists stirring up trouble. America is built on freedom of speech and Westport takes pride in these rights. God bless America! Thank you Elon for helping to distinguish the fake paid for protests from the real organic ones. It was wild how Zuckerberg explained how he was pressured and forced by the Biden admin, to censor free speech (see Mark Zuckerberg interview on January10, 2025 by Joe Rogan #2255 3 minutes in). Or the twitter files, it was insane how the Biden admin forced the censorship at twitter (One year later, the Twitter Files continue to reveal the depths of illegal government censorship, hageman.house.gov/me, November 30th 2023). Thank you Westport for supporting these constitutional rights and thank you Elon for putting everything on the line to expose the fake fraudsters.
