
WESTPORT — A food drive to help everyone share in Westport’s bounty for Thanksgiving is planned Nov. 5 at Stop & Shop supermarket.Donations of non-perishable foods will be collected by Westport police officers and volunteers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the store, 1790 Post Road East.
The food drive will support the Homes with Hope food pantry at the Gillespie Center and the town’s Department of Human Services pantry, which also collaborates with the Westport Woman’s Club.
Among the non-perishable foods the drive’s organizers say are needed include: applesauce, brownie/cake/pie mix, breakfast bars, boxed macaroni and cheese, canned sweet potatoes, canned fruit and vegetables, canned gravy, canned meat and tuna, cereal, cranberry sauce, dry milk envelopes, hamburger or tuna helper, soups, instant mashed potatoes, oatmeal, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, rice and stuffing.
Avoid donating foods in glass jars, according event planners.
