WESTPORT–The much-heralded, time-zone-stretching winter storm has begun in Westport.

First Selectman Kevin Christie has signed a Declaration of Local Civil Preparedness Emergency in response to the imminent severe winter storm. This declaration is effective Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. and activates the Town of Westport Local Emergency Operations Plan (LEOP).
Forecast & Conditions
- Timing: Heavy snow is expected to impact the area throughout Sunday, tapering to lighter snow Sunday night into Monday.
- Accumulation: Westport and coastal Connecticut are forecast to receive 12 to 16 inches of snow.
- Wintry mix: Sleet is expected to mix in with the snow Sunday evening, creating heavy, wet conditions.
- Winds: Sustained winds with gusts of 20 to 30 mph are anticipated, with higher gusts possible along the shoreline.

Critical Safety Directives:
Stay off the roads: Residents are urged to avoid all travel. Roads must remain clear for emergency vehicles and plows.
Prepare for cold: A prolonged period of extreme cold is forecast to follow the storm.
