STAMFORD – A scandalous divorce case that rocked the town of Stamford will be discussed this weekend at a presentation offered by the Stamford History Center.

Martin Kivell will give a talk at the center at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7th, to discuss the historical episode he chronicled for the winter issue of Connecticut Explored magazine. Admission is free, and discounted copies of the magazine will be available to purchase.

Kivell chronicled the tumultuous divorce between Martha Blackwell Miller and her husband, Charles F. Miller of New York. During the course of the proceedings, Martha was kidnapped from a hotel room in January 1843 and spirited to New York by her estranged husband, an incident that divided the town into two hostile camps.

Kivil was previously the executive director of the Stamford Historical Society. His work has appeared in the CCNY Alumni Magazine and the website Cracked.com, and his humorous blog on being an uncle (or aunt) is available here.
