On Sunday, May 31, the owners of Prospect Gardens Westport opened their gates to the public for a spring tour of their 8½-acre garden.

The Garden Conservancy offers open days for many of the country’s most interesting gardens. Prospect Gardens Westport is one of them.

Melissa and John Ceriale have spent decades tending and growing their plot–which, according to a descriptive brochure–dates back to 1874 when the Wakeman family grew onions here.

Today, the garden features two orchards, perennial and shrub gardens, a three-tiered vegetable garden, berry houses, grass gardens, plants used as sculpture, an interactive glass sculpture, a meandering stream and a one-acre wildflower meadow.

The brochure points to a rosy future, with the removal of an adjoining structure and the construction of a greenhouse with a thousand square feet of space.

The gardens will next be open to the public on September 19, 2026. Visit here for details.
