WESTPORT — The “Slice of Saugatuck” festival has been called off Saturday because of the threat of stormy weather.

The decision to postpone the event until Sept. 14 was made “after consultations with the Fire Department and the National Weather Service [because] the potential for rain, including thunder, during the event is clear and would disrupt the event,” said Matthew Mandell, director of the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce, the sponsor.

The festival, a celebration of the neighborhood’s cuisine, commerce and culture, has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 14, from 2 to 5 p.m.

“We and all the businesses look forward to seeing everyone next week in Saugatuck for a great day,” Mandell said.

The postponement is the second consecutive time in the event’s 12-year history that it’s had to be postponed because of inclement weather, he noted.

On its new date, the Slice of Saugatuck festival will still take place in the general area bracketed by Railroad Place, Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue.

The event will showcase offerings by more than four dozen restaurants, shops and galleries around the area, many highlighting special cuisine or deals on merchandise.

Music will be performed by seven bands throughout the afternoon, providing a festive backdrop for attractions that include two beer gardens, roving performers and dance demonstrations, the Fire Department’s antique engine, bouncy castles, balloon creations and face painting.
