WESTPORT — A slice of food. A slice of fun. A slice of fraternity.
That’s the 10th annual “Slice of Saugatuck,” a festival celebrating the culinary and community traditions that made Saugatuck a tight-knit Westport neighborhood for decades.
The event, organized by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce, is set for 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, in the Saugatuck area framed by Riverside Avenue, Charles Street, Saugatuck Avenue and Railroad Place. Rain date is Sept. 17.
Parking is available at the Saugatuck Railroad Station.
Tickets — cash only — will be sold only at the event, starting at 1:50 p.m. A “passport” ticket costs $15; tickets for children, five to 12 years old, cost $5.
A true taste of Saugatuck can be enjoyed by sampling “slices” from the fare offered by more than 24 restaurants and caterers participating in the festival.
In addition, neighborhood shops and galleries will open their doors for the event, which also will feature live music, two beer gardens, retailers’ product and specialty demonstrations, roving performers and children’s activities.
The Saugatuck Fire Station will be open for tours, featuring an antique fire truck.
“We’re back and Saugatuck is stronger than ever, despite the impact of the pandemic,” Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director, said in a publicity statement for the event. “… Everyone embraces the festival, from the merchants and restaurateurs right down to the residents who come out to see what’s up.
“Where else can you just walk the streets with friends and neighbors and enjoy what an entire community has to offer,” he added.
Proceeds from the “Slice of Saugatuck” benefit the Gillespie Center’s food pantry, operated by Homes with Hope. Over the years, the event has raised more than $39,000 for the Westport nonprofit, according to event organizers.
