WESTPORT–Westport’s Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Bridge hosted demonstrators again on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1.
The Westport crowd, estimated at 300 to 350 people, was one of several hundred “WorkersOverBillionaires” protests organized by May Day Strong. According to a statement, the organization stands for “fighting for public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, shared prosperity over corporate politics.”
The protest brought together people from several Fairfield County towns. There were no speeches or special guests. The Westport Police Department erected traffic barriers that mostly kept the crowds off the normally busy Post Road East.
The gathering began shortly after 11 a.m. Monday and was winding down by 12:15 p.m.

God I love free speech. Wages are up for workers under current admin compared to previ but yes billionaires can be a menace. What is considered a golden age for thee but not for me, can quickly become class struggle—glad to see a couple hundred playing it out in the Norwalk area…
I yoo love free speech. I wonder how free it would be if an opposing position were declared in the middle of this group. Probably devolve quickly into loud, vicious name-calling, drowning everything else out. As for dangerous billionaires , George Soros comes to mind as he seeds our country with the likes of Alvin Bragg and now possibly, Mamdani. Billionaires, however, are the people who create, innovate and give people jobs, so are a good sign for our country and economy. Someone famously once said, ” I never got a job from a poor person”. The Left’s love affair with the indigent and dole receivers will not improve our country.
Yikes Sharon – you have always been teetering down that line of racism but now you’ve jumped in to the deep end. The George Soros trope is one the most common and uneducated anti-Semitic slurs you can find. A rich guy donates to a group working on social and criminal reform and that group gives some money to candidates – and you have a problem with that how? But presumably you don’t have a problem with Felon47 letting his billionaire donor Elon run rampant and wild across our government for the price of the election. The one making Hitler salutes and stealing our private information, as well as gutting important mission like the FAA with absolutely no expertise and no authority is the one you should call dangerous.
The majority of the town that you choose to live in will stand up for hard working immigrants (who give far more to our economy than they take ) and call out corruption where it really exists.
Soros is an individual who has justly earned the opprobrium he receives from people who do not appreciate his efforts to place anti police and pro criminal attorney generals, mayors, legislators etc. in office. According to you this means he is off limits for criticism because he is Jewish. So if he were a WASP it would be fine with you for anyone criticize him? Musk wasn’t able to cut nearly as much as was necessary but what he has to do with Soros I have no idea. BTW, there was no ” Nazi salute”. I also have no idea what ” working immigrants” have to with this either.
