WESTPORT–Westport’s Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Bridge hosted demonstrators again on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1.

The Westport crowd, estimated at 300 to 350 people, was one of several hundred “WorkersOverBillionaires” protests organized by May Day Strong. According to a statement, the organization stands for “fighting for public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, shared prosperity over corporate politics.”

The protest brought together people from several Fairfield County towns. There were no speeches or special guests. The Westport Police Department erected traffic barriers that mostly kept the crowds off the normally busy Post Road East.

The gathering began shortly after 11 a.m. Monday and was winding down by 12:15 p.m.
