WESTPORT — It’s time to go on a tear!

For the 12th year, the town on Saturday, Sept. 25, will sponsor “Shred Day,” where the community is invited to dispose of personal records or sensitive documents.

The paper-shredding event is set from 9 a.m. to noon at the Greens Farms Railroad Station.

Residents will be allowed to shred up to eight paper bags or three boxes (12 by 18 inches) of papers per household. Proof of Westport residency is required.

There will be a $5 charge for each vehicle at the event.

“This is an opportunity for Westporters to dispose of personal, confidential and sensitive papers, such as bank statements, cancelled checks, credit card statements, tax papers and medical records by watching their papers shredded on-site,” First Selectman Jim Marpe said in a statement announcing the event.
