WESTPORT — Passover starts tonight, Friday, and Gold’s Deli — Westport’s top holiday provider — was a busy place, indoors and out.

“People are, I think, eager to gather,” observed Nancy Eckl, who has owned the mainstay deli in Compo Shopping Center for many years alongside her husband, Jim Eckl. “You can just feel it.”

Eckl said more than 300 orders — large and small — were placed for Passover Seders, which are the ceremonial feasts celebrating the week-long holiday. Given it’s starting on a Friday, she said, more people are holding larger celebrations for its first night.

“I wish everybody a healthy, happy and peaceful Passover,” said Dorothy Silber of Westport, “and we love Gold’s.”
