SOUTHPORT — From participating in sit-ins to his unlikely rescue from pursuers by a Mississippi state trooper, longtime activist Jim Matschulat will discuss his experience in the Civil Rights Movement at an upcoming event at the Pequot Library.

Guests can take a guided tour of Unfinished Revolution: 250 Years of Marking American Independence starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15th, before hearing remarks from Matschulat. The library says the experience offers “a living link between the artifacts on our walls and the people who lived that history.”

Matschulat spent several decades in activism after returning home to Milwaukee after his initial trip to the South to help integrate pancake houses in Jackson, Miss. This work included tutoring students in upstate New York and supporting fair hiring practices and food security initiatives in Connecticut.
