WESTPORT — Light but steady snow began falling across southwestern Connecticut overnight, as blustery winds pick up and temperatures fall.
Westport and the rest of the region remain under a “Winter Weather Warning” issued by the National Weather Service through 7 p.m. Saturday.
Highlights of the winter nor’easter so far:
- Snowfall is projected to be 5 to 8 inches by the time the storm tapers off.
- Wind gusts could be clocked up to 45 mph.
- Temperatures have fallen to about 20 degrees, where they are expected to remain most of Saturday.
- Coastal waters may rise up to 6 inches over ground level in low-lying areas from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the NWS.
- Emergency contact information posted for Westport.
- Snow-plowing policies in Westport, posted by the Department of Public Works, are now in effect.
- Town officials issued a statement on the storm Thursday night, urging preparation and caution throughout its duration.
- All Westport public school-related activities are cancelled Saturday and Sunday.
- The Westport Library, the Westport-Weston Family YMCA and MoCA Westport are all closed Saturday.
- Metro-North Railroad service, so far, is running, but on a reduced weekend schedule.

- Bus service around the state, including the Coastal Link along the Post Road, is suspended for the day.
- A ban on tractor-trailer trucks using limited-access highways in the state is in effect until further notice.
