WESTPORT — An intense, fast-moving storm dampened holiday fun Saturday afternoon — and doused electric power to nearly 1,000 Westporters.

As of 3 p.m. Saturday, Eversource reports that 919 local customers of the energy company lost power in the aftermath of the downpour and thunderstorm earlier in the afternoon.

Westport suffered by far the most outages reported by Eversource among its neighbors in southwestern Connecticut, as was also the case in a mid-April storm.

At the same hour, Weston had no reported outages, while there were 16 in Norwalk and 19 in Wilton, according to the power company.

As a cold front moves through the region, the National Weather Service, forecasts a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms through about 8 p.m. Saturday.

Skies are expected to clear by Sunday morning, however, with sunny conditions throughout the day and a high temperature about 80 degrees.

Monday, Memorial Day, is forecast to be “mostly sunny,” with temperatures reaching a high in the mid-80s, according to the NWS.
