WESTPORT — This winter is living up to seasonal expectations, with a third snowstorm in a week forecast for southern Connecticut starting later Saturday, followed by possibly “damaging” winds Sunday.

According to the “Winter Weather Advisory” issued by the National Weather Service from noon Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday, 2 to 4 inches of snow, at times mixing with sleet, are expected to fall across the region.

The storm, beginning mainly as snow, is forecast to buffet the area starting Saturday afternoon, mixing with icy rain overnight.

Daytime high temperatures Saturday should rise just above the freezing mark into the mid-30s, and will remain in that range overnight, the NWS says.

Precipitation is expected to change to all rain Sunday as daytime high temperatures reach about 50 degrees.

Winds will increase in velocity throughout Sunday, according to the weather service’s “High Wind Watch” in effect for the region from 6 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday.

Wind speeds clocked at 20 to 30 mph are forecast, with gusts up to 60 mph possible, the NWS says.

Skies for Monday, the Presidents Day holiday, are expected to be sunny with high temperatures in the mid-30s. The strong winds should subside by Monday evening.
