1964 Reagan Speech Reflects the Present

Dear Editor,

When I first listened to this speech on YouTube by Ronald Reagan, 1964 “A time for Choosing”  it sounded like I heard it before.

At first I was hesitant to put it in Letter to the Editor, Westport Journal, maybe the timing isn’t right.

After listing to the news night after night and hearing only impractical changes to America and the American people made by President Biden that have been implemented, and those that are trying to be passed, it is my opinion that all these changes, if passed 100%, will lead us to a socialist country.

If anybody with a heartbeat has a few minutes, go on the internet and go to YouTube. Listen to Ronald Reagan’s speech “A time for Choosing”  1964. Listen to every word and you will think it is “2021.”

Sincerely,

Gerald F. Romano, Jr.

Tooker Praised for Work with Current Admin

Letter to the Editor:

Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker and Board of Finance Vice-Chair Andrea Moore have been key players in the Jim Marpe administration at Town Hall.  As a result of their leadership, Westport has experienced an unprecedented eight years of essentially no tax increases and a revitalized economy. At the same time there has been a significant improvement in amenities, including the modernization of Coleytown Middle School.

A vote for Jen and Andrea will assure the continuation of the outstanding non-partisan Marpe leadership at Town Hall and of our economic revival.

 Pete Wolgast

Democrat for Tooker-Moore

To The Editor:

I am writing to express my support for Jen Tooker and Andrea Moore as First and Second Selectmen. I am a lifelong Democrat, deeply committed to the ideals of my party. But I’m also a strong believer in getting to know people, not just their political affiliations. The wonderful thing about local elections is the proximity we have to the candidates. When we go to the polls, we’re not just voting along party lines; we’re voting for neighbors, community members, and often, friends.

Jen and Andrea have been leaders in our community for over a decade, serving both as elected officials in our town government as well as tireless volunteers for local organizations. They have devoted their time, boots-on-the-ground here in Westport, to making our town a better place in which to work and and live. Jen and Andrea bring practical management experience, thoughtful intelligence, and great integrity to everything they do. They are the right people for the job and I’m proud to support them with my vote.

Praise for Andrea Moore

To the Editor:

With the elections in Westport fast approaching, I am writing in support of Andrea Moore for Second Selectperson.  Andrea is a native Westporter and I am excited about the opportunity that Westport has in this upcoming election.  Not all towns have the chance to elect a leader with a love for her community and commitment to its success as much as she does.

I had the opportunity of working with Andrea in several capacities on the PTA Board at Saugatuck Elementary for many years, but most notably as Co-President.  I can attest to her excellent background to contribute leadership and thoughtfulness evident in working with other members of the Board. Despite the countless volunteer hours that go along with such roles, Andrea always managed to graciously accept any challenges that may have arisen and completed tasks with excellence and precision.

Her honest and measured approach is what I believe led to her success in being elected to the RTM and subsequently elected to her current position as the Vice Chair on the Board of Finance.  I have great confidence that she is the best candidate for Second Selectperson as this is a natural progression of a skilled leader.

The residents of our community would be lucky to have a leader with Andrea’s integrity, loyalty and respect of her peers. Raised in Westport, she is instinctively in tune with the people of our town and is fiercely woven into its fabric.

Resident Urges Steinberg-Savin Vote

Hello Westport:
As I drive around and see all the colorful and abundant lawn signs for 2021 local candidates, I am reminded how crucial this local election — actually every local election — truly is.  In order to keep Westport’s integrity, charm, positive growth, and community spirit, I believe there’s only one team who will make the difference to our future– JONATHAN STEINBERG and CANDICE SAVIN.
Each of them has come to this moment with hands-on experience — Jonathan as a Connecticut legislator and Candice as a long-time public servant and  community activist, holding positions which have influenced Westport’s quality of life.
The team of  STEINBERG/SAVIN  deserve to be on our Westport Board of Selectmen and our town will benefit from their solutions, their thoughtful and action-oriented managerial approach, and their combined passion for this community to thrive.
GET OUT AND VOTE! and VOTE FOR Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin. I know I will.

Steinberg-Savin Praised as “Formidable Team”

To The Editor:
We have known Candi and Jonathan for many years and believe they make a formidable team with the right mix of strategic, management and legislative experience, at both the State and local level. They complement each other in a unique way that can benefit Westport as we incorporate our growth in population and plan for the future.
We know Candi well and have great respect for her commitment to our town and her innate ability to deal with complex issues. Some people can see a solution to a problem, others can execute … Candi has the ability to do both.
They are certainly a winning combination for Westport, based on their experience, strong values and dedication to our town.

Steinberg-Savin Pick to Face Resiliency Issues

To The Editor:

I’d like to encourage all Westporters to vote for Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin for Selectmen on November 2. These two Democrats have demonstrated throughout their careers how hard they will work to benefit our community.

I’m so proud to live in Westport. Our quality of life is remarkable and our school system is second to none. While we have significant advantages due to location and geography, much of what we get to appreciate in our town is built on years of smart choices by our leaders in the Selectman’s office.

We are seeing rapid change in many aspects of our lives, especially in the environment. We need to implement plans that will enhance our resilience against storms and other natural disasters. We should be focused on a prioritized review of all town facilities to discover our key vulnerabilities and then we need to enact plans to fix them. What is the right plan for resilience? What systems are under-funded and one bad storm away from a disaster?

We need curious and experienced leaders like Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin leading the town. These dedicated Democrats will anticipate issues and make confident choices for the benefit of Westport and our region.

I hope you’ll join me in voting for Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin for Westport Selectmen.

Sincerely,

Peter Propp
