WESTPORT — Youngsters are invited to glide over to the Westport Library for the new “Isles in Aisles” reading program, featuring players from the Bridgeport Islanders hockey team.

Three drop-in sessions, where players from the New York Islanders’ American Hockey League affiliate will read hockey-themed books aloud to children, are planned at the library, 20 Jesup Road. Adults are also welcome, according to the library’s announcement.

Sessions planned so far in the Children’s Library include at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4; 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, and 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 3. Additional dates are expected to be scheduled, the library indicated.

Players also will be available for autographs afterward, and “Storm,” the Bridgeport Islanders mascot, may also make an appearance.

“Westport is a great community of young readers and a town that loves sports,” Mary Parmelee, the library’s youth services director, said in a statement announcing the program.

“To have professional hockey players come to the library to encourage kids to read and engage with the library is a special opportunity.”

Cole Bardreau, the team captain, said in the statement: “I’ve always loved books and take several with me on bus rides, so I’m excited to give back in that way. Being a professional hockey player is a privilege, and it’s important for our team to use this platform to encourage good reading habits.”
