FAIRFIELD — An upcoming talk at the Fairfield University Humanities Institute will discuss disinformation and the question of whether efforts to push back against it are being used as a way to quash political dissent.
Jacob Siegel, author of the upcoming book The Information State: Politics in the Age of Total Control, will give a presentation at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 5th at the university’s Barone Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Siegel, a contributor to the digital magazine Tablet, provides an examination of whether society has reached a point where anything that contradicts a dominant narrative can be labeled as dangerous disinformation. The book description says it “sounds the alarm on where society is headed in the age of AI if we don’t relearn how to think for ourselves and ask searching questions about whether information can ever be a substitute for truth.”
