WESTPORT — Thursday starts as another warm sunny day, with temperatures expected to crest near 80 degrees, but things could take a “hazardous” turn later this afternoon and tonight.

Southwestern Connecticut this morning is under a “Hazardous Weather Outlook,” issued by the National Weather Service.

That puts Westport and the rest of the region at “a slight risk for severe thunderstorms today and this evening,” the NWS warns,

“Strong to locally damaging winds will be the main threat. Brief heavy downpours are also possible,” according to the forecast.

The greatest threat of unsettled, possibly severe, weather is before 8 p.m., the weather service says, with the likelihood of storms tapering off overnight.

Skies are expected to clear by Friday morning, with more seasonal temperatures registering a high in the 60s.

The outlook for Saturday is for cloudier skies, with a 40 percent chance of showers in the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the low 60s, according to the NWS.

Easter Sunday is expected to be a nicer day, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid-50s, according to the forecast.

In the event of power outages, they can be reported online at Eversource.com or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who signed up for the power company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates.
