WESTPORT–It’s time to give gas-powered leaf blowers the summer off.
Starting tomorrow, the noisy machines are prohibited in town through Oct. 15 under the leaf blower ordinance passed in 2023
“We are continuing our message that gas-powered leaf blowers may not be used during summer,” said Colin Kelly, director of the Westport Conservation Department, which oversees enforcement of the law.
The ban does not apply to town or state‑owned land, properties larger than 20 acres or public utilities. The law also makes exceptions for storm condition clean-up.
Electric blowers remain allowed.
During the 2024 season, the first summer the machines were prohibited, the department sent notices of violation to 168 properties.
“The Conservation Department oversees enforcement, primarily via education and outreach—not fines,” the department’s website says.
Residents may report potential violations to leafblowercomplaints@westportct.gov, or by mail to the Conservation Department, Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., Westport CT 06880.
