FAIRFIELD — Birding enthusiasts of all ages can celebrate the return of migratory birds to the region this month, with the Connecticut Audubon Society hosting several “Migration Magic” events.

Local events begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5th, with a guided walk at the Birdcraft Museum and Sanctuary in Fairfield to look for returning songbirds. Other upcoming events include a free introduction to birding program on Saturday, May 9th; a bird banding demonstration on Saturday, May 23rd; and a family craft activity on Saturday, May 30th.

Migration Magic also features two month-long activities. A Birdathon, a friendly competition for birders to spot as many birds as possible in Connecticut and a designated area of New York, serves as a fundraiser for conservation efforts in Connecticut. There is also a photo contest, which will present awards for the best photos by both adult and juvenile birders.
