WESTPORT–The Westport Transit District wants you to download their Wheels2U app. So much so that they are giving away five free rides to anyone who downloads and uses the app.

Westport Transit District Director Peter Gold sees a lot of potential new users. “People frustrated with downtown parking, people looking for a designated driver, people rushing for the train, kids over 12 without a driver’s license” are all candidates for the door-to-door service.

Gold added, “We’re offering five free rides to anyone who downloads the Wheels2U app for the first time, making it easier than ever to explore and commute around town.”

Not just for commuters

Although many people use Wheels2U to get to and from the Saugatuck and Greens Farms railroad stations, Gold says Westporters can use the morning Saugatuck service for a variety of reasons, every weekday between 5:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

• Meet a friend for coffee and eggs at Kneads
• Picking up / dropping off dry cleaning at Minute Men Cleaners
• Kayaking at Saugatuck’s Sea Kayak 

Mid-day mid-week downtown loop

Wheels 2U has a mid-day, Tuesday / Wednesday /Thursday service that runs between anywhere in Westport and the downtown area from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You can take it to or from Jesup Green, the Westport Farmers’ Market or the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

According to Gold, this service is great for trips to 

• The farmers’ market and senior center
• Lunch and shopping downtown
• The library
• Grabbing pizza on Main Street or Church Lane

Saugatuck Designated Driver

Wheels 2U also has a late-day, Monday through Friday Saugatuck service that runs town-wide from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Perfect as a designated driver for:

• Meeting friends for a drink after work at Romanacci on Railroad Place
• Dinner at The Bridge, Kawa Ni or another fine Saugatuck restaurant

Gold describes how it works:

• Download the Wheels2U app from the App Store or Google Play.
• Like Uber, book your ride about 20 minutes in advance for the best experience.
• Like Uber, track your ride on the app as it comes to where you are.
