WESTPORT — “Stories in Bloom,” featuring springtime activities and appearances by more than a dozen area writers, is planned Saturday on Jesup Green by the Westport Book Shop.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, on the green, across from the book shop, 23 Jesup Road.

The lineup of authors scheduled to appear, according to event organizers, represent a wide range of literary interests and styles, designed to appeal to readers of all ages. They will be available to discuss their work and approaches to writing, as well as to sign books.

There also will be traditional Maypole dancing,  temporary tattoos, corn hole and refreshments.

The book shop also is planning two raffles in conjunction with the event: The first raffle is for a sealed copy of the book, “The New Yorker in Westport,” by Eve Potts and Andrew Bentley, which showcases 50 New Yorker magazine covers by area artists inspired by local scenes.

The second raffle is for a month of weekly group swim lessons for youngsters at the Stewie the Duck Swim School in Norwalk, along with a Stewie the Duck gift basket.

Raffle tickets cost $5 each or three for $10, and winning tickets will be drawn at 3 p.m. June 28 at the book shop. Proceeds benefit the shop’s missions to support Westport Library programs and to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
