WESTPORT — Batten down.

Strong winds, with gusts howling above gale force, are forecast for Westport and the rest of southern Connecticut tonight through tomorrow morning by the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain also is possible overnight — thunderstorms may be triggered — as temperatures rise to balmy levels near 60 degrees both days.

In a “Wind Advisory” issued for the region from 11 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday, the NWS warns that southwest winds from 25 to 35 mph — gusting up to 55 mph — can be expected.

The wind and rain onslaught, the NWS says, is likely to make driving hazardous, as well as to blow down tree limbs and power lines.

And capping off a very changeable  forecast for the next few days, as the winds calm down later Friday, temperatures will tumble and there is a chance of “snow showers” late Saturday morning.
