WESTPORT — It’s been said that life’s too short to drink bad beer.

On Saturday afternoon in the heart of downtown, crowds undeterred by steady drizzle huddled under umbrellas and pop-up tents to sample some 60 quality craft beers from the region.

It was the sixth year for Westoberfest, organized by the Downtown Westport Association, centered at Sigrid Shultz Plaza off Elm Street.

The offerings also included gluten-free brews, spirits and canned cocktails.

There were food trucks, fare from area restaurants and bakeries, as well as hops, yeast and suds aplenty. Even lederhosen.

Attendees, of course, had to be 21 to sample beers, but the event was family friendly, with children’s activities.

The event was rain or shine, and plenty of people shrugged off the wet weather and raised sampling glasses.
