WESTPORT — Combine New York and Detroit style pizzas into a one-of-a-kind pie, and add burgers that win bravos — that’s a recipe for another destination dining spot coming to downtown.

Emmy Squared pizza plans to roll into Bedford Square, taking over the space at 1 Church Lane previously occupied by Amis Trattoria.

The rumored local site for the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based restaurant chain is confirmed in a July 11 letter from the Aspetuck Health District, which states the eatery’s “floor plan and schedule of equipment submitted on July 7” has been approved for 1 Church Lane. Still to be secured, however, are a zoning certificate of compliance and a building certificate of occupancy before a food permit is issued, the letter by sanitarian Ryan Currier notes.

Emmy Squared has added multiple locations since its 2016 founding in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, including six other New York City outlets to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., to the Atlanta, Nashville and Louisville regions and one West Coast restaurant in Santa Monica, Calif.

The Westport restaurant, however, will be Emmy Squared’s first in Connecticut and New England.

The restaurant specializes in pizzas combining “a New York style grandma pie with a Detroit style pizza,” according to its website.

It also is known for “Le Big Matt Burger,” which the website says “has been recognized as one of ‘The Best New Burgers in NYC’ (Gothamist) and one of the ’20 Best Burgers in NYC’ (Infatuation).”

The Emmy Squared menu also features appetizers, sandwiches and salads.

For those who can’t wait for Emmy Squared to open its Westport restaurant, many of its menu offerings are available to be shipped nationwide.
