
WESTPORT — Works by three artists — inspired variously by Middle Age mysticism, Westport’s skies and mixed-media collages — are showcased in Westport Library galleries through Feb 4.
The artists also will discuss their work in reception/conversation programs over the coming weeks at the library, 20 Jesup Road. There are no admission fees.
The exhibits are:
“Alchemy of Light,” paintings by Claudia Mengel displayed in the Sheffer Gallery, are influenced by “the essential mysticism at the heart of alchemy’s expression in the Middle Ages,” according to the library’s announcement.
A reception for Mengel, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, will be followed at 7 o’clock by a conversation between Mengel and Miggs Burroughs.
“Westport Skies,” en plein air oil paintings by Jason Pritchard in the South Gallery, is “a love letter to his New England home,” the library announcement states.
“Journeys in Collage,” by Christine Timmons in the Jesup Gallery, features mixed-media collages composed of materials ranging from exhibit mixed-media collage composed paper and dead leaves to wire and ticket stubs, the library.
A shared reception for Pritchard and Timmons is planned at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, following by a conversation with the artists and Burroughs. For questions or more information, call the Westport Library at 203-291-4800.
