WESTPORT — “The Best is Yet to Come,” a fundraiser benefiting the Westport Country Playhouse and featuring Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth, is set for Sept. 14.

The program, also featuring Drama Desk Award-winning music director Mary-Mitchell Campbell, will salute the music of Cy Coleman, winner of Tony, Grammy and Emmy awards, from his Broadway shows that include “Sweet Charity,” “Barnum” and “On the Twentieth Century.”

In addition, the playhouse’s 2024 Leadership Award will be presented to Westporters Harold Bailey, Jr. and Bernicestine McLeod Bailey, longtime leaders of TEAM Westport, the town’s multicultural advocacy committee.

“The Best is Yet to Come” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the playhouse, 25 Powers Court.

 Chenoweth, a Tony Award-winning performer, has appeared in numerous Broadway productions, including “Wicked,” “On the Twentieth Century” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” as well as the movies “Annie” and “RV,” and television programs including “The West Wing,” “Glee” and “The Music Man.”

Campbell, a conductor, music director, composer and arranger, has been music director for Broadway shows such as “The Prom,” “Mean Girls,” “Company,” “Sweeney Todd” and “Some Like It Hot.” Her pop music credentials include work with Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Carole King, Amy Grant, Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor, Marc Anthony, and Josh Groban, among others.

Harold Bailey, Jr., executive vice president of McLeod Associates, has a broad range of experience in information technology general management, sales, marketing and consulting. Prior to his retirement as vice president of Lotus Marketing Integration, he was involved with IBM’s transition from hardware centricity into the software and services businesses. He is a member of the Westport Country Playhouse board and served as its vice president from 2004-06. 

Bernicestine McLeod Bailey is president and founder of McLeod Associates, an information technology consulting firm, and previously was a systems engineer with IBM. She is also vice president for operations of Aisha & Co., LLC, a family gift company.

Both Baileys have been leaders of TEAM Westport since its establishment in 2003. Harold Bailey has been the committee’s chairman since its founding, while Bernicestine Bailey is a founding member and secretary.
