WESTPORT — Downtown will be transformed into open-air galleries, featuring all kinds of art in a range of different media, on May 25-26 when the “Westport Fine Arts Festival” returns for its 51st year.

The two-day event, organized by the Westport Downtown Association, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26. There is no admission fee.

More than 140 artists and craftspeople from around the Northeast will display — and sell — their work throughout the heart of downtown, with entry points to the festival from Elm Street, Main Street and Avery Place, and Post Road and Main Street.

Vendors will exhibit paintings, photography, sculpture, fiber art, prints, mixed media, glassware, ceramics, jewelry, wooden pieces and graphics.

A special attraction for children will be “Encanto Village,” based on the animated movie. Youngsters also are invited to decorate and write messages on rocks, part of the “Westport Rocks” community project, with the rocks later placed in planters around downtown.

Music will be performed at several stages within the festival grounds on both days.

A range of food and beverage options also will be on offer.

Parking will be available at Parker Harding Plaza, the Baldwin lot, at Jesup Green (the Taylor and upper library lots) and the Imperial Avenue lot.

Several downtown streets will be closed off to accommodate the festival, including:

  • Main Street from Post Road to Avery Place, from 6 a.m. Friday, May 24, to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 26.
  • Elm Street from Main Street up to the Serena & Lily store, from 6 a.m. Friday, May 24, to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 26.
  • Sigrid Schultz parking lot off Elm Street, vehicles should be removed by 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23, or will be towed.
