FAIRFIELD – A musical program commemorating the forgotten voices of one of the most significant accomplishments in American history will be featured this Friday at Fairfield University’s Quick Center for the Arts.

The Silkroad Ensemble will perform American Railroad at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7th. Tickets are $35 for general admission, $25 for Quick Center members, and $5 for students.

American Railroad highlights the overlooked musical and cultural contributions of the laborers who completed the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869, including Black, Indigenous, Irish, Chinese, and Japanese workers, as well as those from other immigrant communities. The program aims to “[amplify] unheard voices from these communities, painting a more accurate picture of the global diasporic origin of the American empire.”

The Silkroad Ensemble is an eight-piece ensemble led by internationally celebrated pipa player Wu Man. For more information on the program, click here.
