WESTPORT — Audiences will have the opportunity to meet the artist behind a series of large-scale works on display at MoCA\CT, as the museum hosts a special event centered around the exhibition.

A gallery talk with Rick Shaefer will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20th. During the hour-long walkthrough, Shaefer will discuss the inspiration for his pieces, the historical references they include, and the creative methods he has used to bring his work to life. Attendees can discuss these topics with the artist during the event.

The event is taking place in conjunction with MoCA\CT’s exhibition of selections from Shaefer’s Colossi, Refugee Trilogy, and Liberty Dismantled. These works feature themes including migration, displacement, national identity, and the conflict between “the ideals of freedom and the realities of division.”

Shaefer’s work is part of MoCA\CT’s larger Looking for History exhibition. This previously featured Ellen Harvey’s The Disappointed Tourist, which used art as a medium to highlight lost places, and recently introduced Michael Borders’ Connecticut Industry.

The gallery talk is $25 for general admission, $15 for seniors and students, and free for MoCA\CT members. To register, click here.
